LFHS Music Department
It is the mission of the Lake Forest High School Music Department to offer the highest quality performing ensembles and classes. We strive to instill responsibility, leadership, musicianship, self-discipline, and professionalism through daily rehearsals and performances while fostering a life-long love for and involvement in music.
There are many opportunities to shine
Lake Forest High School has two formal bands: Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. They are under the direction of Mrs. Janene Kessler.
These are performing ensembles for woodwind and brass instrumentalists. Students are exposed to many styles and periods of music. These groups perform at community events, all varsity home football games, as a pep band for basketball games and four major concerts per year.
Within the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensembles, students can also take part in smaller groups such as Symphonic Percussion and Advanced Percussion, as well as Advanced Percussion Honors. Students may also audition for Wind Ensemble Honors and Honors Competition Bands.
Many students have formed smaller ensembles that perform throughout the year, such as Flute and Clarinet Choirs, Jazz Band and Brass Choirs.
Lake Forest High School has two formal choirs: Mixed Chorus and Concert Choir. They are under the direction of Mr. Riley Worthen.
These are performing ensembles for vocalists. Students are exposed to many styles and periods of music. These groups perform at community events, five concerts a year and have the option to participate in a semi-annual overseas Spring musical trip.
These groups perform several times a year. Members are eligible for the Lake Forest High School Glee Club and may audition for the Bel Canto Singers and the Madrigal Singers.
